Devialet Phantom Ultimate: Which Phantom Is Right for Your Space?
Few speakers look or sound like a Devialet Phantom. Designed and built in France, each Phantom is a complete hi-fi system in a single sculpted sphere: amplifier, streamer and speakers working together, with nothing else to add but your music. The latest generation, Phantom Ultimate, comes in two sizes and a special edition.
The technology inside
- ADH (Analog Digital Hybrid) amplification combines the finesse of analogue with the power and efficiency of digital, for clean sound at any volume.
- HBI (Heart Bass Implosion) uses two synchronised woofers facing each other to produce remarkably deep bass from a compact enclosure.
- SAM (Speaker Active Matching) corrects the speaker's behaviour in real time, so it reproduces the music exactly as recorded.
Phantom Ultimate 108 dB: the flagship
The Phantom Ultimate 108 dB delivers 1100 watts RMS, a maximum sound level of 108 dB and a frequency response from 14 Hz to 35 kHz. It is built to fill large living spaces with concert level sound, and a stereo pair makes a striking alternative to a traditional hi-fi system. Streaming covers AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Roon Ready, UPnP and Bluetooth, and it is available in Light Pearl and Deep Forest.
Phantom Ultimate 98 dB: compact, still remarkable
The Phantom Ultimate 98 dB brings the same signature sound to a smaller form, with 400 watts RMS, a maximum of 98 dB and bass down to 18 Hz, at just 4.3 kg. It suits bedrooms, studies and medium sized living rooms, and also comes in Light Pearl and Deep Forest.
Opéra de Paris: the collector's edition
Created with the Opéra national de Paris, the Phantom Ultimate 108 dB Opéra de Paris features side plates finished in gold leaf by the artisans of Ateliers Gohard, inspired by the gilded interiors of the Palais Garnier, with the full performance of the 108 dB model. A 98 dB Opéra de Paris edition is also available.
Which one should you choose?
- For a large, open plan living room or a stereo system that replaces traditional hi-fi: Phantom Ultimate 108 dB, ideally as a pair.
- For a bedroom, study or smaller living space: Phantom Ultimate 98 dB.
